But I had a dream last night that made me think its time to get going on being prepared for this baby!!!
In my dream... we had our baby (btw it was girl... is that a sign??? lol) and we had gone to a get together and when we got there I realized we had NOTHING for our child!!! No diapers, no clothes, NOTHING! And somehow I had nothing at home either... like I wasn't ready for baby! It was interesting to say the least... considering I don't hardly dream! :-D
I need to get in gear and start thinking and planning on getting ready for this baby! Because I sure don't want it to go without diapers or clothes! Poor naked baby... hehe
And since I'm an organized planner weirdo I'm gonna set about making a list of things to do in the coming weeks so I don't have to cram in the weeks right before baby is born!
What have you done in preparing for your baby? Here are a few things that come to my mind when I think about getting ready.
I know I want to have meals in freezer for ease after baby is born. I know we will get a good amount of days worth of meals from our church and family because they are awesome and do that for you! But after that I will want easy food (but food I can eat for my diet becuase even after baby is born I'm not sure what my body will do once nursing....) for us to get back on our feet with. Lots of sleepless nights and groggy days that don't make making food to easy!
I want to have a good amount of disposable diapers on hand and have bought cloth diapers for baby to use at home. I think I am going to go the route of disposable diapers for a good few weeks and then once I get back on my feet using disposable only when we go out or when its necessary and the cloth diapers at home. Even though I can use coupons and sales to get diapers for a good deal usually it is still gonna cost money that I would rather use on other things for baby.
I need to clear out and figure out what I am doing to baby's room! I have a crib (Thanks to my friend who stored it for me all these years! I LOVE IT!) and other furniture that I will be using in that room I just need to get it all cleaned out and set up. Then of course once we know what baby will be in a good 6 weeks or so I will finish registering for baby and know what I want to decorate with!
Ack and my brain is spinning with things I need to do!!!

I don't have much to say about preparing for baby before he/she arrives because... I didn't get the chance BUT I think there is something to those dreams because before our 20 week ultrasound, I had a dream and in it our baby was a boy and guess what we got?! : )
Yah... I hope its a girl but we shall see!!!
haha yeah. you feel crazy trying to get organized for that, but you still have like 7 months!
imagine working 40 hours a week.
taking 9credits of college. which is 15 hours in class every week... plus homework time.
AND planning a wedding in 6 weeks.
:)
LOL
You've been planning for more than 6 weeks! LOL duho! :-D
I hope to have everything done by my last month so I can take it easy.. :-) haha we shall see!
Well I had a dream that our baby was born and it was a puppy.. (true story)
Honestly its really the hormones that make you have freakouts. I usually had mild freakouts about certain items that I didnt have enough of or had not gotten yet so there would be a item of the week. LIke I would buy socks all week cuz I kept looking at his clothes and thinking I didnt have enough of them. Needless to say they end up with way to much stuff and dont use 1/4 of it. As long as baby has food and diapers thats all they need!
LOL ya not having freakouts about not having enough stuff! LOL I'm sure Im going to get plenty of baby gifts and am gonna wait to get clothes and such till after my showers so I don't end up with tons of stuff. Like if it IS a girl I already have a HUGE tote (its like 4-5 feet long!!!) full of baby girl clothes from andrea from the twins!!! So yah.. LOL
Anywho!
Have you seen MSM's series on saving/planning for a new baby??? She started it just today...looks like it will be great for those of us who are happily expecting!
My advise...don't go overboard buying tons of stuff, especially BIG items...being your first baby, being part of our family and your church, you're going to get so much stuff at showers!!!
One of the things that has helped Steven and I is to try to buy say one pack of diapers each week. By the time little one gets here, you'll have yourself a good supply. Obviously, you may not want to pay full price, but it's a good way to get ready.
I've found it's so much easier to get going once you have the news of boy/girl. It keeps you from buying yellow and green and it's so much more exciting to KNOW!! :)
I need to start my own list!!! I've never really tried to plan that far ahead with meals, but I think it would really help. Even if it's just freezing cooked hamburger and chicken. That cuts down on SOOO much prep time. That and LOTS of casseroles!!!
You and MSM have inspired me to get myself into gear (if I ever have energy again, that is!!) and get something prepared!!!
Miss you, girl!! I'm off to try to sleep before a big day of shopping tomorrow. :)
Resist the urge to buy clothes, especially for a first baby! People love to buy baby clothes. If you do buy, err on the side of bigger clothes. My 10 lb 10 oz baby didn't fit into NB diapers or clothes and is almost too long for his 0-3 month clothes at 7 weeks. We returned stuff that was too small, kept the 0-6 month outfits that were given to us, and used the store credit to buy clothes for later on. Happy preparing!
Definitely go easy on all the equipment - walkers, bouncers, swings, etc. They quickly outgrow them and then you have to store them (besides do you want your house to look like a daycare?) I got a select few and then borrowed (my sis had already had 4 boys and had what I needed.) Although, I have started to wonder what I'll do since Priscilla is now 10hrs away! I waited until after the shower to get any clothes; in fact I don't think I actually bought her ANY until she was 18months. Don't register for newborn - most babies barely wear them.
BTW, you are ahead of me. I'm 20wks and have only formulated ideas of what we need to prepare. We haven't even talked baby names yet!
Also, don't sweat it. The baby mags all try to make every choice a monumental decision. What kind of bib, paci, diaper, etc you choose will not make you super parent or super loser parent nor will it have a lasting positive or negative impact on your little one.(Well, if you dip the paci in honey or leave the same diaper on for 48hrs then you might :) ) Just have fun and enjoy your little blessing!
I can remember my first...having nothing and not really knowing what I would need...
Oh yes, I was given showers for the baby..but NO clothing to speak of. Instead, we were given like five Tommy Tippy cups (I'm dating myself here)...a high chair, back pack...stuff like that.
No little shirts..one yellow sleeper that I brought her home from the hospital in. No receiving blankets. No diapers.
I was so clueless. I had no idea what I would need.
Every mom has her own things she can't live without. That essential list varies. So resist the worry about every list item in the mommy magazines.
We survived! We went shopping and then a sweet friend from church brought me a bag of clothes that were her son's. I embroidered little flowers on all the blue things and we were good to go.
With the rest of my babies, I put all the must-haves on lay-away (once again, I date myself!)and was ready when the baby arrived.
Before the twins were born, I had given EVERYTHING away! Then we found out we were having another...okay..doable...then the big surprise of two! Shock and Awe! Sooo, I was back to square one and headed to the store once again to do the lay-away drill.
We survived that, two...I mean, too!
:)
Enjoy this time.
It's so special. You are on a wonderful journey, Nichole.

I am doing the same sort of things you are! We are expecting our first baby (a girl!) April 27th. I have been trying to get freezer meals together and organize the house. I have been so extremely tired that it has been hard. And we have eaten lots of the meals that I did put away. It sounds like you are on the right track keep it up!
Oh boy, I'm in the same spot you are! I'm actually 15w4d and have done nothing to prepare for this baby. I have a 7 year old son which means I have absolutely no baby stuff saved...yikes! I think I'll sit down and write out a list of things needed to do/make/purchase ahead of time. We have quite a bit of time left but it's funny how it seems like there's not enough time left!
